Born in London to a Welsh father and a Scottish mother, he won a scholarship to study Fine Art at (1958-1962), where he was tutored by the celebrated artist Victor Pasmore.
After graduating, he taught art at Ravensbourne College of Art & Design before dedicating himself entirely to full-time painting and travelling in the 1970s.
While he has travelled and exhibited extensively across the globe-including New York, South America, Munich, and the South Seas, Humphreys frequently returns to his favourite rural landscapes which are Pembrokeshire, The Hebrides and the Sussex countryside. His work is rooted in the landscape by the poetry of Edward Thomas. A lyrical painter in the British pastoral tradition.
Humphreys was invited by Sir Kyffin Williams to show with The Royal Cambrian Academy and is a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. His work is preserved in notable public and corporate collections, including
